Phil Stair, Government Official
Flint Michigan
Genessee Country Land Bank Sales Manager

Before resigning from his post, Phil Stair's was a public official who worked for an organization responsible for managing tax-foreclosed properties. His resignation was forced by the release of a voice recording, in which he offered simplistic, racist explanation for the water crisis occurring in Flint Michigan since 2014, making the following statement:

"Flint has the same problems as Detroit: f-ing niggers don’t pay their bills. Believe me, I deal with them..."

In 2014 the Flint River became the drinking water source for the city of Flint, Michigan. Due to insufficient water treatment, over 100,000 residents were exposed to contaminated water with high levels of lead in the drinking water. A federal state emergency was declared in January 2016 and Flint residents were instructed to use only bottled or filter water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and bathing, and are expected to do until 2020. Several lawsuits have been filed against government officials on the issue.

Sometimes we are so busy living -- seizing the day, seeking and protecting our greatest freedoms and liberties, that we forget acknowledge the source, and how deep-seated and deliberate hatred is for our humanity.

I am basically anti-complaining and making "daily" observations about the hatred harbored by racists and the various ways their vileness manifests, as if taken by complete surprise.  But, this link, and other content in this section of the website, is to promote the certainty about what we fight against, when our ever present struggle is discounted and reduced to trivia, as we are chastised to not "play the race card" and to "get over it".

By understanding the mind of the racist, and how they grovel in the depth of vileness, that every nuance of racism is comprehended.

So many good observations, points and counter-points made in this discussion.  Some standard rhetoric, and some new bold ideas.

A shocking paraphrase:
"It will take 280 years for African Americans to catch up to whites, and 80 years for Mexicans -- because they have already surpassed us, because they are not black and unlike black, they have a homeland that produces something."

⇓ White America, at least those with access to the media, has been largely overwrought and inexplicably irate over "Black Lives Matter". Their response has been pointedly poisonous, with focus on defaming, character assassinations, and villifications. They stand before the public, promoting false and biased realities, exposing themselves as short-witted and desparate. The overreactions to a simple pleas for equality and justice have been very revealing.

For all of their machinations, the observation shared above is the only truth, or message, that they have successfully conveyed.

⇓ The Message Being Sold
Black Lives Matter are "domestic terrorist", committing "terrorist acts".

0:31-0:45 superimposing white orchestrated voices, chanting "What do we want? Dead cops now", over video feed
0:46-1:00 White protestors posing as supporters of Black Lives Matter, chanting "Pigs in a blanket. Fry them like bacon".  Despite the fact that they appear with a sprinkling of about 20 Black folks, who were most likely willing to make their acting debut for a few extra dollars.

Self-Evident Truth:
Racist whites are devious, wicked, and hateful...and in this case, so very desperate. And, as with all social deviants, since the beginning of mankind existing in community --- shameless.

Fortunately, racists are only capable of creating (and perceiving) caricatures of Black people, making this attempted propaganda hideously obvious. Same of what Bill O'Reilly, 2016 nominee for I'm-Racist-Just-For-The-Hell-Of-It, delivers in news-light form.

WHITE MAN'S ARREST

BLACK MAN'S ARREST
The White man has protection and privilege.  He's allowed to resist following police instructions.  He's allowed to resist arrest.  He's allowed to use physical force against police.  He's allowed to leave the scene, run around the parking lot and paddle fight the police.

The Black man has death.

This is but one, extremely tragic, degree of the unwelcome experience of racism.

Murder of Alton Sterling (R.I.P.)
Shot and Killed by Police at Close Range

Murder of Philando Castile (R.I.P.)
Shot and Killed by Police at Close Range

⇓ Although seemingly subdued by two officers and not exhibiting any brute, combative force against them, Alton Sterling was shot at close range by one of the police officers (after the other officer announced "Gun, Gun". In the aftermath, as is standard operating procedure, his not so stellar past, leading up to that day, was paraded before the public, as unspoken justification for the shooting.

On July 5, 2016, although seemingly subdued by two officers and not exhibiting any brute, combative force against them, Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man, was shot several times at close range by one of the two Baton Rouge Louisiana Police Department officers. Police were responding to a report that a man that was dressed in a red shirt was selling CDs, and he had used a gun to threaten someone outside a convenience store. The shooting was recorded by multiple bystanders.

STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
In the aftermath, as is standard operating procedure when a Black man is unjustly murdered, Alton Sterling's not so stellar past, leading up to that day, was paraded before the public, as an offering of justification for the shooting. Mr. Sterling (known locally as "CD Man") had a criminal record, which included a 2009 conviction for carrying a semi automatic gun while in possession of marijuana.

However, store owner, witness and video recorder of the incident, Abdullah Muflahi, said that Sterling had started carrying a gun a few days prior to the event because other CD vendors had been robbed recently. Muflahi also said that Sterling was "not the one causing trouble" during the situation that led to the police being called.

On July 6, 2016, 32-year old Philando Castile was fatally shot by a Minnesota police officer, after being pulled over for a broken tail light. Diamond Reynolds, his girlfriend, live-streamed a video on Facebook immediately after the shooting. It shows her interacting with the armed officer as a mortally injured Castile lay slumped over, moaning slightly and his left arm and side bloody.

PROTESTS
After Mr. Sterling's death, protests were held in Baton Rouge, along with a request for a civil rights investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

By 12:30 a.m. on July 7, about three hours after Mr. Castile's shooting, protestors gathered at the scene, "peaceful but visibly angry". More than 200 people were present. After news of Castile's death spread, crowds of protestors gathered outside the Minnesota Governor's Residence in St. Paul, chanting Castile's name and demanding that Governor Mark Dayton make a statement. That night, demonstrations in St. Paul continued, remaining "peaceful but forceful".

RETALIATIONS
On July 7, 2016, Micah Xavier Johnson fired upon a group of police officers in Dallas, Texas, killing five officers and injuring nine others. Two civilians were also wounded. Johnson was reportedly angry over police shootings of black men. The shooting happened at the end of a peaceful Black Lives Matter-organized protest against police killings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, which had occurred in the preceding days.

On July 17, 2016, Gavin Eugene Long shot six police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Three died and three were hospitalized, one critically. Long was shot and killed by a SWAT officer during a shootout with police at the scene.

Jesse Wesley Williams
1981 – Present
Actor, Activist
At the 2016 BET (Black Entertainment Network) Awards, upon receiving a humanitarian of the year award, Jesse Williams delivered a powerful acceptance speech, giving voice to many in the African American community.

Transcript:
This award, this is not for me.
This is for the real organisers all over the country. The activists, the civil rights attorneys, the struggling parents, the families, the teachers, the students, that are realising that a system built to divide and impoverish and destroy us cannot stand if we do.

It's kind of basic mathematics, the more we learn about who we are and how we got here, the more we will mobilize.

Now this is also in particular for the black women, in particular, who have spent their lifetimes dedicated to nurturing everyone before themselves. We can and will do better for you.

Now what we've been doing is looking at the data and we know that police somehow manage to de-escalate, disarm and not kill white people every day. So what's going to happen is we are going to have equal rights and justice in our own country or we will restructure their function and ours.

Yesterday would’ve been young Tamir Rice’s 14th birthday, so I don’t want to hear anymore about how far we’ve come when paid public servants can pull a drive-by on a 12-year-old playing alone in a park in broad daylight, killing him on television then going home to make a sandwich.

Tell Rekia Boyd how it’s so much better to live in 2012 than 1612 or 1712.
Tell that to Eric Garner.
Tell that to Sandra Bland.
Tell that to Darrien Hunt.

Early Life
Jesse Williams was born in Chicago, Illinois to Reginald Williams, an African American and Johanna Chase, of Swedish descent, and is the oldest of two three sons born to the couple. After his high school graduation, each of his parents began teachin in the public school system.

Williams graduated from Temple University with a double major in African American Studies and Film and Media Arts. Upon obtaining his degree, he taught American Studies, African Studies, and English in the Philadelphia public school system for six years.

Career
In 2005, Williams began to study acting and was one of 14 actors chosen to participate in the New York Actors Schowcase presented by ABC Television. Since 2006, he has appeared in a number of television series, films, and theatre productions. In 2012, he established a production company, known as farWorld, Inc.

In 2009, he began appearing as Jackson Avery in the popular television series Grey’s Anatomy.

In May 2016, Williams released a documentary film he directed entitled “Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement”.

Activism
Williams is the youngest member of the board of directors at The Advancement Project, a civil rights think tank and advocacy group. He is also the executive producer of Question Bridge: Black Males, a multifaceted media project, art exhibition, student and teacher curriculum and website, focused on the black male identity and the diversity within the demographic. He has written articles for CNN and The Huffington Post, and has been a guest on Wolf Blitzer's The Situation Room.

In October 2014, also known as Ferguson October, Williams joined thousands in Ferguson, Missouri, to protest the shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown.

The web is notorious for being confrontational, how racist commentary often appears unprovoked, as if a natural inspiration of some.
Unprovoked Racist Commentary
2016-May-12
Race Baiting
Confrontation seems to be a natural element of the web.  And in many public forums, once it is perceived that you are of the Black race, immediate judgement comes, along with demeaning, inflammatory adjectives to describe you, or any of commentary that you might share.

Race baiting, is rooted in a common bullying tactic, intended to intimidate and open the door to a hoped for emotional response, so that a sense of power and control might be gained.  If successful in eliciting an emotional reply, a barrage of highly inflammed, derogatory statements generally follow.

Witness to the example shared, the person identifying as Black used the term "haters" (without any direct reference to racism), but in reply, the commentator was quick to jump to judgement and infuse more of a racist undertone, and then attack the person for being "extremely ignorant and immature".

Leadership Response:
Upon an African American, U.S. Postal worker, Glen Grays, exiting his truck, to deliver a package, in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, a vehicle recklessly speeds by, and according to interviews, Grays' said that he shouted at the men, after the vehicle nearly ran him over.

Upon hearing the screams of the postal worker, the driver immediately stops and backs the car up, and four plain clothes police officers emerge from the unmarked vehicle, and proceed to manhandle, handcuff and arrest the worker. Witnesses provided cell phone video of the incident.

After the video of Grays' arrest surfaced in March, the New York Police Department removed three officers from their normal posts while investigating the incident. Their supervisor, Lt. Luis Machado, who was among the officers who arrested Grays, was placed on modified duty.

Two months later, the disorderly conduct charge filed against Mr. Grays was dropped by the court.

By a single eyewitness account, supported by graphic images, a young Black man was brutalized, beatean to a bloody pulp, by a grocery store security guard for simply “trying to buy food”, at the market with an EBT card.

A woman, Zoe Marks, visting from Edinburgh, Scotland and in Oakland, California for less than four hours, shared a post on Facebook with her personal account of the incident.

Meanwhile, she told the Oakland Tribune that she witnessed an argument between the cashier and the victim, as he tried to use an EBT (food stamp) card.  She said that the victim was not shouting, nor was he violent or disruptive.  She also added that the man wasn’t a threat to anyone and that she felt safe until the armed security guard came and attacked him.

A group of 10 Black women (and one white woman), members of a book club, were taking a relaxing, three-hour, scenic trip through the Napa Valley, aboard the Napa Valley wine train -- an annual ritual of their "Sisters on the Reading Edge" book club.

As the women enjoyed themselves in conversation and laughter, they were cautioned by train staff to lower both their voices and laughter, due to a complaint, or complaints, of fellow passenger(s). By the perception of the women, they had maintained a level of conversation, laughter and decorum, no different from any of the other passengers on board. However, train staff eventually kicked them off the train.

A company employee falsely reported the women a being verbally and physically abusive toward other guests and staff, on social media. A statement which was screen-captured by one of the women, before it was retracted and removed.

In September 2015, it was announced that the family of the late Vince DeDomencio, founder of the Napa Valley Wine Train, had sold their wine train interests to Noble House Hotels & Resorts, Ltd, of Seattle, and Brooks Street, a California real estate development and investment company.

On October 1, 2015, the women announced that they would sue the Napa Valley wine train for $11 million for having been unduly victimized and lied about by the company.

Sandra Annette Bland
1987 - 2015
On July 10, 2015, in Prarie View, Texas, 28 year old Sandra Bland was stopped for failure to signal a lane change. One day later, the police department reported finding her hanging from her jail cell, her death latter ruled a suicide. Claims of family and friends, and release of a dash-cam video, made this ruling seem highly implausible.

According to an audio transcript of the encounter, Saundra was adamant and vocal about protecting her rights. At one point, the officer asked her to extend the courtesy of extinguishing her cigarette, as the smoke bothered him. She denied his request on the grounds of her right to smoke inside of her private vehicle. In anger, the officer asked her to exit her vehicle, and with her refusal, the officer attempted to forcibly extract. She was pinned to the ground and arrested.

Although the New York City Police Department banned the use of
choke holds, the restraining maneuver that cuts off the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain,
an NYPD officer used this very same maneuver to restrain Eric Garner, contributing to his
untimely death.

Mr. Garner was approached by two officers on the suspicion of selling single

Upon waving his arms free of two officers trying to control his movement, the officers immediately
become aggressive, one instantly wrapping his neck into a choke hold, mounting his body and twisting him to the ground.
Two other officers arrive to join in the capture. Mr. Garner repeatedly beg relief for
his inability to breath, until rendedered unconcious, and then dies.

The Crime: Suicide by Gunshot to Chest While Handcuffed in Back
On March 2, 2014, White and a friend visited a local convenience store, where they purchased cigars. There was a fight outside between two unidentified men, neither of whom had any connection to White. Minutes later White and his friend were stopped by two sheriff officers. A small amount of marijuana and cocaine was found in White’s pocket, leading to his arrest.

White was handcuffed with his arms behind him, frisked twice for contraband and weapons, and placed in the back seat of the squad car. He was then driven away from the scence, but never made it inside of the station.

The Sheriff’s Office insists that White shot himself, while seated in the back of the squad car, with his hands handcuffed behind his back.

Coroner's Report
Points to an Egregious Lie
The coroner's report, released six months later, states that White was shot in the front, not the back, that the bullet entered his right chest and exited under his left armpit. The report also cited forensic evidence that the gunshot residue in the wound did not indicate a close range shooting. Despite the conflicting details in the reports, and despite the fact the White's parents reported that he was left-handed, the coroner ruled White's death a suicide.

The Los Angeles Police Department is under scrutiny again. This time it's for sending almost 80 officers to break up a college house party. Most of the partygoers were African-American students from the University of Southern California.

USC senior Nate Howard organized the party that was shut down by the police. At a protest on campus Monday he condemned the response.

"Seventy-plus officers?" he said. "What else was going on at that time in the community that you needed to be at a party of students getting ready to graduate?"

Howard says LAPD sent officers in riot gear and a helicopter to break up his party after they received noise complaints. Students were handcuffed and detained, and six were arrested. Howard says it was a peaceful event: registered with campus police, student IDs checked at the door — no fights, no guns — just black college kids having fun.

"And here we have LAPD who are still trying to make us live in 1963!" Howard said. "Brothers like me go to college, they go to college, they look like me, they look like us! Here we are!"

At a community meeting, LAPD Captain Paul Snell said his officers responded to a noise complaint and felt threatened, so they called for help. Routine. But when it was time for audience questions, white USC students got up and said it was all about race. Sarah Tither-Kaplan, a senior at USC, was partying with friends across the street. No one there was arrested.

"My house was treated with respect and the only difference between the two parties was that racial component. And if you're going to deny that, then I'm sorry, I'm just not going to stand for it," said Tither-Kaplan.

Scott says there's an investigation in progress and that he doesn't want to see an incident like this repeated.

As for those arrested, they've been released and their charges may or may not be dropped, but their responsibilities as students haven't gone away.

Sherrice Iverson
2nd Grader
1989 - 1997

The life of seven year old, second grader, Sherrice Iverson, was taken by an 18-year old Jeremy Stohmeyer, who killed her inside of a bathroom in the Primadonna Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1997.

Just before starting for home, just after midnight, LeRoy Iverson dropped his 14-year old son and his 7-year old daughter off in the arcade area of the Primadonna Casino resort, already filled with the children of other Las Vegas gamblers, and proceeded upstairs to the casino floor. During this era, hotels had begun catering to families with children by dedicating entire floors to video arcades to entertain children and parents were encouraged to live their children while they gambled.

Captured on Video
Jeremy Stohmeyer(r) and David Cash(l), who if were young African males, both would certainly have been charged with murder and sentenced to life in prison for the heinousness of the crime.  But being white, and Sherrice being African, David Cash got a pass from society and the justice system and went on to attend U.C. Berkeley and resume his life and planned. Please review his vile quotes below, which remind me of George Zimmerman of present day.

About 3-1/2 hours after being dropped off by her father, 18-year old Jeremy Stohmeyer struck up a conversation with Sherrice.  As the conversation ensued, he started playing tag with her. He began chasing her around the casino arcade for a few minutes and then followed her into a women’s restroom. According to court testimony, once he went into the bathroom with Sherrice, he began to throw paper towels at her. Soon he grabbed her, putting his hand over her mouth and took her into a stall and sexually abused her. His friend, David Cash, walked in on Strohmeyer, saw him violating little Sherrice, and heard Strohmeyer state the words:  “Shut the fuck up or I will kill you”.  After witnessing the assault upon Sherrice, Cash left the bathroom and was followed less than 30 minutes later by Strohmeyer, who immediately confessed to him that he had molested and killed little Sherrice.  Sherrice was found propped up and strangled inside the restroom stall.

Cash said nothing to anyone about this crime. A few days later, two fellow students of Strohmeyers went to the authorites after identifying him from a security tape played on the local news as the killer. Strohmeyer was arrested and charged with murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault. Strohmeyer pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

On the other hand, David Cash, who witnessed the start of the crime and stood watch outside of the restroom, as accomplice, for 30 minutes until his friend Jeremy Stronhmeyer completed his murderous acts upon the child, escaped punishment, and went on to attend U.C. Berkeley.

The Callousness of Cash
Cash told the Los Angeles Times that he did not dwell on the murder of Sherrice Iverson. "I'm not going to get upset over somebody else's life. I just worry about myself first. I'm not going to lose sleep over somebody else's problems." He also told the newspaper that the publicity surrounding the case had made it easier for him to "score with women." During that interview Cash himself told Nora Zamichow of the Los Angeles Times that, just before he and Strohmeyer joined Cash's father for a car ride back to the young men's homes in Long Beach, Cash asked him if Sherrice had been sexually aroused. "Why would you ask if the little girl was aroused?" said the Times reporter. "I don't know, it's just the way I think," Cash answered.

During a separate interview with the Long Beach Press-Telegram, Cash told the press that he was going to profit from the killing by selling the movie rights to the incident: "I'm no idiot ... I'll get my money out of this one day." And went on to say "The simple fact remains I don't know this little girl ... I don't know people in Panama or Egypt who are killed every day, so I can't feel remorse for them. The only person I know is Jeremy Strohmeyer", and according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram Cash mentioned that he felt more sorry for Jeremy than for Sherrice because, after all, he had lost his best friend, and once again said he did not know the girl or her family, but still insisted that he did nothing wrong. Cash would constantly say to news reporters "What have I done?"

Soon after the discovery of the crime, media scrutiny turned to Leroy Iverson, with stress and focus on examining issues of his ultimate culpability for the crime.

SHERRICE IVERSON BILL
Cash would later go on to be called the “Bad Samaritan” because of his inhumane disregard for the humanity of little Sherrice, for not immediately reporting to the casino owners or the police the murder of Sherrice. Fellow students at the university he attended sought to have him kicked out of the university for not stopping the crime or alerting authorities while the crime was going on. But, nothing came of that.

However, Sherrice Iverson’s murder led to the passage of Nevada State Assembly Bill 267, requiring people to report to authorities when they have reasonable suspicions that a child younger than 18 is being sexually abused or violently treated. The impetus for the bill stemmed from the inaction of a witness, and friend of the murderer, who stood by and did nothing during the commission of the crime.

The “Sherrice Iverson” bill, introduced by Nevada State Assembly Majority Leader Richard Perkins (D-Henderson), provides for a fine and possible jail time for anyone who fails to report a crime of the nature that led to the creation of the bill. The bill was enacted in 2000.

As a result of her murder, hotels in Nevada increased security in their arcades, often having a security guard even in small arcades.

Rodney King
1965 - 2012

Following a high-speed chase, 25 year old Rodney King, a taxi driver was beaten by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department. By coincidence, George Holiday captured a videotape of the entire beating from his balcony. At first, he contacted
the police about his videotape, but they ignored him. He then sent the footage to KTLA, a local news station.

The four officers charged with assault with a deadly weapon and use of excessive force were found not guilty. However, the federal government obtain a grand jury indictments for violations
of King's civil rights. On April 16, 1993, two of the officers were found guilty and imprisoned, and the other two were once again found not guilty.

George Holiday's video of the beating was the first of its kind -- concrete evidence of police
brutality against a Black man. The L.A.P.D. Police Chief, Daryl Gates, called the images an
"aberration", not to be believed at face value. And, when the four officers charged were found not guilty, a riot erupted in Los Angeles. By the time the National Guard arrived, 53 people had lost their lives, and over 2,000 had been injured.

When they want to suppress and oppress the Black community, what do they do? They take the statistics, and through the press, they feed them to the public.

They make it appear that the role of crime in the Black community is higher than it is anywhere else. What does this do? This message—this is a very skillful message used by racists to make the whites who aren’t racists think that the rate of crime in the Black community is so high. This keeps the Black community in the image of a criminal. It makes it appear that anyone in the Black community is a criminal. And as soon as this impression is given, then it makes it possible, or paves the way to set up a police-type state in the Black community, getting the full approval of the white public when the police come in, use all kind of brutal measures to suppress Black people, crush their skulls, sic dogs on them, and things of that type. And the whites go along with it. Because they think that everybody over there’s a criminal anyway. This is what—the press does this.

This is skill. This skill is called—this is a science that’s called “image making.” They hold you in check through this science of imagery. They even make you look down upon yourself, by giving you a bad image of yourself. Some of our own Black people who have eaten this image themselves and digested it—until they themselves don’t want to live in the Black community. They don’t want to be around Black people themselves.

Nearly 100 years after an upcropping of free states  in the United States, the majority of African-descended people were still persona non grata, regarded as unwelcomed and held to ridicule.

In 1931, the popular song writing team of Ray Henderson and Lew Brown (Louis Brownstein), wrote “That’s Why Darkies Were Born”.  Based upon all written, historical accounts found, this song was not written as an expression of racism, but instead has been recorded as being intended as conciliatory satire.  It became a "number one hit" for Kate Smith, one of the most popular singers of the time.  In addition, it was covered by Paul Robeson, a notoriously popular ‘Black’ singer, actor, and social activist, as well a few others.

Despite its overall appeal to the mainstream, I find both the title and lyrics offensive and unsettling.  The use of drogatory pet names assigned to African-descended people will always be offensive and a mark of racism, no matter how redefined.

The Lyrics:

Kate Smith, Singer
1907 – 1986

Someone had to pick the cotton,
Someone had to pick the corn,
Someone had to slave and be able to sing,
That's why darkies were born;

Someone had to laugh at trouble,
Though he was tired and worn,
Had to be contented with any old thing,
That's why darkies were born;

Sing, sing, sing when you're weary and
Sing when you're blue,
Sing, sing, that's what you taught
All the white folks to do;

Someone had to fight the Devil,
Shout about Gabriel's Horn,
Someone had to stoke the train
That would bring God's children to green pastures,
That's why darkies were born.

From the 1860s to the 1920s, towns across the U.S. violently expelled African residents, under threat of death.  At least 12 different counties in eight states banished their African populations. More than 4,000 African residents were expelled from their homes, losing several thousand acres of their legally owned lands to white residents in the process.

White residents lashed out against them, terrorizing their families and communities through gun shots fired into their homes and against their persons, burning and killing indiscriminately, sweeping entire counties clear of Africans to make them racially “pure.”

Today, these communities remain virtually all white.

"During slavery and the Jim Crow era in the United States, African Americans were brutalized and mistreated in almost every way imaginable. If there was a way to kill, maim, oppress, or use an African American for any reason, it more than likely happened. If the skin from an African American might be used for leather shoes or handbags, then pretty much all atrocities were possible and probable."
